ReedPop, a global leader in fan-centric pop culture events, faced challenges in engaging their full audience. At ticketed events, a single person often purchases multiple tickets for a group, leaving ReedPop with limited insight into the broader attendee base. This lack of granular data made it difficult to build comprehensive fan profiles, personalize experiences, and track attendee behavior. Accurate attendee registration and fan data collection presented ReedPop with the opportunity to gather actionable insights to improve their events and achieve key objectives.
Additionally, ReedPop sought to transform its event app, powered by Leap Event Technology, into a dynamic and engaging hub. Positioned as their primary sponsorable digital asset, the app needed to deliver interactive
experiences that would attract users, keep them engaged, and provide sponsors with high-value visibility. The goal was to make the app a "digital green space" that could house innovative activations, enabling sponsorship opportunities that could be highlighted in their media kits.
Finally, ReedPop needed to deliver immersive, scalable, and engaging experiences across their flagship events, each with its own unique themes and objectives. Whether it was increasing foot traffic to merchandise booths, keeping
fans engaged during downtime, or creating memorable sponsor-driven activations, the solution had to cater to
diverse audiences while maintaining a consistent level of innovation and quality.
ReedPop engaged Komo in 2023 in partnership with Leap Event Technology, to address key challenges and enhance fan engagement across their flagship events including New York Comic Con 2023. Komo was selected for its versatility, seamless integration with Leap Event Technology’s Fan Scan app, and ability to deliver gamified activations that engaged fans, gathered actionable data, and created sponsorship opportunities. With the success of NYCC 2023, ReedPop continued to leverage Komo in 2024 across seven major events, with tailored solutions designed to meet each event’s unique objectives that included engaging their fanbase, enhancing event experiences, driving foot traffic,
and providing sponsors with valuable visibility.
Driving Foot Traffic and Merchandise Sales
Komo played a pivotal role in driving attendees to key areas of ReedPop’s events, particularly merchandise booths and physical activations. At New York Comic Con (NYCC) 2024, the Scratch and Win activation encouraged fans to visit the merchandise store by offering prizes such as discounts, mystery grab bags, priority Fast Pass lane access, and tickets to NYCC 2025. This activation boosted foot traffic and significantly
increased in-event merchandise sales.
At Emerald City Comic Con (ECCC) 2024, the Tavern Checklist encouraged fans to explore multiple locations and complete specific challenges for points and rewards, driving footfall and encouraging exploration of the show floor.
Enhancing Fan Engagement
Komo’s versatile tools helped ReedPop deliver captivating and interactive experiences that kept fans engaged throughout their events. At NYCC, the Play NYCC Hub featured the flagship Bodega Battle, a team-based competition where fans earned points for either the Pizza Rats or Bodega Cats. These points contributed to the cumulative team and individual leaderboards, updated in real-time via Komo’s live data feeds and displayed both in the app and on big screens. This activation fostered a sense of camaraderie, competition, and repeat engagement. Additionally, Interactive Q&A and Live Trivia featured across multiple events, allowing fans to submit panel questions digitally and test their knowledge of pop culture for prizes.
At EGX and MCM Comic Con, fans participated in a Memory Challenge, testing their speed and focus while interacting
with event mascots. The Personality Quiz revealed attendees’ Enneagram types, with results linking directly to themed stickers and pins available at merchandise booths. These activations blended digital engagement with physical interactions, driving deeper connections with attendees.
"KOMO has helped solve a number of problems for us. On a macro level, it has allowed us to engage more of our attendee base directly and build brand loyalty. With over 200k attendees, this has proven to be a challenge in the past.
On a micro level, KOMO has benefitted a number of different areas of our event. Collecting Valuable Fan Data
Komo’s platform enabled ReedPop to gather actionable data from attendees, helping them better understand fan preferences and behavior. Following NYCC, the Multi-Poll, sponsored by Popverse (ReedPop’s editorial arm), allowed fans to vote on
their favorite panels, booths, and photo ops. These results were transformed into editorial content on Popverse, extending engagement beyond the event and offering insights to inform future strategies.
Creating Sponsor Opportunities
ReedPop successfully leveraged Komo’s tools to create impactful sponsor activations. At NYCC, the Vote Card was used during the Crown Championship cosplay competition, allowing fans to vote for their favorite competitors. This highly visible activation ensured sponsor logos and
branding (including Hasbro Play, DoorDash, and Tumblr) were prominently displayed during a high-traffic moment.
Across events, the Fan Hub allowed sponsors to engage with attendees in sold-out venues with limited physical branding space. By integrating sponsor logos and messaging into
the digital activations, ReedPop provided sponsors with
meaningful exposure and direct connections to fans.
Streamlining Event Operations
Komo also helped ReedPop improve operational efficiency at large-scale events. At NYCC’s Main Stage Q&A, fans submitted questions digitally, eliminating logistical challenges such as crowd control, driving inclusivity for ADA guests, and enhancing the quality of interactions. This streamlined approach ensured
a smoother experience for both attendees and panelists at events featuring stars from major franchises like Stranger Things and The Boys.
ReedPop’s collaboration with Komo transformed their event experiences through a series of tailored, innovative activations that addressed key objectives. From driving foot traffic and merchandise sales to engaging fans with interactive content, collecting actionable data, and showcasing sponsors, Komo provided a seamless and scalable solution. Across all events,
the platform facilitated deeper fan engagement, operational efficiency, and valuable insights that enhanced ReedPop’s ability to deliver memorable, high-impact events while strengthening connections with its diverse audience and sponsor network.
ReedPop’s collaboration with Komo achieved outstanding results across seven flagship events, successfully addressing their objectives of engaging fans, driving measurable outcomes, and delivering value for sponsors. With 1.66 million total engagements and an impressive 90% engagement rate, the activations created sustained excitement and meaningful interactions across ReedPop’s global events.
Attendees spent a collective 86 days and 22 hours engaging with the platform, with an average engagement time of 4 minutes and 9 seconds, reflecting the depth and quality of the fan experience. Across events, ReedPop captured over 52,000 unique entries, demonstrating
the strong appeal of Komo’s
interactive tools.
At New York Comic Con, year-over-year results highlighted the platform’s transformative impact, with the event achieving a 1,058% increase in total engagements, alongside a 450% uplift in impressions and a 247% increase in unique engagements. These results reinforced the ability of Komo’s gamified activations to drive repeat participation and create sustained excitement.
Komo’s activations also enabled ReedPop to drive engagement during downtime, encourage exploration of key areas, and boost event objectives like foot traffic and merchandise sales. Supporting events such as C2E2, Komo’s tools ensured meaningful connections with fans, while activations like the Tavern Checklist and Scratch and Win encouraged exploration, participation,
and on-site activity.
By seamlessly integrating into mobile apps, Komo empowered ReedPop to capture actionable attendee data, providing a clearer understanding of fan behaviors and preferences. This valuable insight not only strengthened ReedPop’s ability to refine future engagement strategies but also created additional value for sponsors looking to reach highly engaged audiences.
Through interactive and scalable activations that engaged fans both physically and digitally,
ReedPop successfully delivered measurable outcomes across their portfolio of events. The impressive results underscore Komo’s role in enhancing the attendee experience, optimizing sponsorship opportunities, and positioning ReedPop’s events as global leaders in fan-first entertainment.
